Promises to My Patrons
There is no modern industry standard on how to handle the creation and maintenance of limited edition photographic prints. The only near universal agreement is that the rules governing the release of such editions should be honest, clear, and upfront.
Accordingly, my limited edition prints all follow the guarantees set forth below to protect both my ability to create, appreciate, and promote my works while also protecting the exclusivity and investment my patrons have made in my work. I encourage all potential investors to review these prior to purchase and to contact me with any questions regarding them.
My guarantees to investors in limited edition prints
I will not increase the number of fine art prints available in a series after the start of run
I will not rerelease the same print as a future fine art print for sale when all initial varieties have been sold
I will not rerelease a identical or visually similar version (e.g. minor cropping or other edits that result in the same essential print) of the same photo for sale as as a fine art print
I will not release as a fine art print any uncropped versions of limited edition prints that were the result of cropping of a larger image
I will not release a limited edition print in a fine art series not available at the time of initial release (example: I release print X with three series— ars intima, ars sublimis, and summa forma— available, I will not release print X in series D if I introduce it as new series in the future)
I will provide all limited edition prints with certificates of authenticity for provenance
My reserved rights
I reserve the right to sell a limited edition print in all limited edition series available at the time of the initial release:
If there are three limited edition varieties available (e.g. ars intima, ars sublimis, and summa forma) at the time of the initial release, I may sell the print released in one variety in the other listed varieties at any time in the future, unless otherwise stated.
I reserve the right to use a digital version or print from a limited edition for personal use and for digital and physical display and cataloging as well as for submission into competition.
I reserve the right to include images from limited edition series in book compilations.
I reserve the right for the release, including for sale, of non-fine art versions of prints from limited editions. These will not be similar in size, material, or method to the fine art version.
I reserve the right create limited edition prints that are the result of significant cropping of a previous or concurrent limited edition print.
I reserve the right to release an edition in any numbered order and to hold the initial print from each edition variety as a First Printing (FP). The first printing will be denoted as FP 1/XX, XX noting the size of the edition. Pricing of the FP will be independent of the pricing of the rest of the edition.
I reserve the right for one Artist Proof (AP) per edition variety which will be denoted as AP 1/1 and which will not count toward the total number of the limited edition variety release. Pricing of the AP will be independent of the pricing of the rest of the edition.
I reserve the right for the price of a limited edition variety to change over time— ie. to increase as sales progress, or for any other reason.
I reserve the right for the creation, restricted distribution, and keeping of other proofs in the process of print creation. These will not be sold by me.
I reserve the right for an edition to change through the course of release as required due to changes in material availability/discontinuation, laboratory changes in practice, or closure.
I reserve the right to pause or discontinue a release early.
I reserve the right to transition any announced or released limited edition to an open edition if a print from that limited edition has not yet been sold. After the first limited edition print is sold, in any variety, that print cannot be transitioned to an open edition.
I reserve all other rights and copyright.
Anticipated Questions

My limited edition fine art prints are made using high quality materials and methods (eg. photo rag, metal, acrylic, et cetera materials and using giclee inkjets, sublimation, or other high quality methods) with the intent of these having lasting value in collection and presentation. These are signed, numbered, and their provenance authenticated.
“Non-fine art print” refers to prints made not using methods associated with fine art and which are not designed for collection or display.
In any situation in which a non-fine art print were to be made, the dissimilarity in quality should be immediately evident to any lay person. An example of when this might be used is in the creation of a compilation books or postcards. These will also not be signed, numbered, or otherwise authenticated as a limited edition print would be. -
“Significant cropping” refers to cropping performed to such an extent that there is no mistake that the cropped version is materially different in appearance and scope from the prior print. A significant crop would likely entail at least a 50% in image size or material exclusion of the prior subject if such is plain and obvious in the original image.
Early investors in a print should be assured that cropped versions of prints are not generally considered to hurt the value of the larger print and often enhance it by creating a de facto “full version”.
I will not make prints that are made from newly uncropped versions (e.g. larger version) of an earlier released print to protect the value those prints. -
Submission for competition is not intended to increase the circulating supply of the limited edition print and is for the promotion of such work with the intent of increasing long term value.
Cataloging by digital or physical means allows for additional verification and proof of provenance of my works to protect long term value.
Personal use consists of display within my own home or office. None of these are for sale. -
Prices will likely go up as the edition nears selling out. As is the case with most items with collectable value, early investors benefit the most from early investment.

These are intended for print review and editing in the process of making a print. They are not intended to have assigned monetary value or to be sold. They are likely to be visibly different from the edition in both editing and format, unlike the Artist’s Proof which should be the final proof and therefore identical to the final edition.
The disclosed Artist’s Proof is the only one for sale. -
Most pre-release proofs are likely to be kept by me. However, I am likely to involve the help of other confidants and artists for analysis and critique at times and those individuals will be allowed to keep such proofs in return for their advice.

Some limited edition prints will be limited to specific varieties. The two main reasons for variety limitation will be the size of the source image and composition. If a piece will not maintain excellent quality at a larger format, it will not be released in that format. Some compositions will look best in certain size formats and will be limited to those varieties. When possible, I will clearly state that a print will only be released in a certain format if that will be the case— and if I do so, it will never be released in another format.

A limited edition may change if technology or printing materials change during a release. Since prints may be done sequentially, it is not possible to entirely guarantee that materials will stay identical through the course of the release. Changes in process or material, should they occur, should result in a final product that is visually identical to the the unassisted eye.

No substantive effects should be seen from the pausing of an edition. Pauses may occur for any number of reasons: availability of materials, availability of myself, inventory management or promotion, etc. An edition may be resumed if previously paused.
An edition or variety may be discontinued early with or without prior notice. In the event of an early discontinuation, an effort will be made to notify prior investors in that edition to provide them with updated information regarding the final printing count of that edition. If an edition or variety is officially discontinued, that edition or variety will not have further prints created or sold aside from the FP and AP prints.
